| | Re:new blog posts 2 Weeks, 2 Days ago | | | Shame, shame…and shame again! I’ve been noticing that the basic idea of “Freedom” has been turned on its head. It used to mean freedom FROM exploitation and abuse by the super powerful…but now it is more and more meaning freedom FOR them to do whatever they like to the rest of us, regardless of the consequences. And…as I think you are saying…the root of system lie not in tanks, bullets, armies and concentration camps, but in beliefs…and the words that give rise to them. And “responsibility”? Seems like that is less and less being seen as being owed to truth, human dignity and the general well being of our species and the planet, and more and more to the bottom line. Tell what sells, and your shareholders will be happy…heck, our current (and completely perverse) corporate law pretty well makes such an attitude a legal requirement (primacy given to “fiduciary duty to the shareholders” and the like…and not even a crumb to the company’s effects on society or the environment). I’d like to say that this anything for a buck attitude is at its worst on the Internet, but have you listened to Glen Beck or Rush Limbaugh recently…to say nothing of what is happening in the Gulf! So how do we rebuild our basic story in such an environment? How do we maintain our cool…and our courage…and not fall prey to all the paranoid fantasies and half-truths being peddled out there when…in fact…the sh**t does seem to be just inches away from the fan…and moving faster all the time? Guess that’s what the Lightning Path is all about! Awakening and empowering is the only way. – dj |
