Eating Meat 2 Months ago
Hi Everyone, I just watched, “Farm, Inc.” I am so traumatized. I felt so sick after I saw it. It’s a film about where our food comes from. That’s it, I’m going vegetarian. I can’t eat anything with a face anymore. We are like vampires. There is so much wrong with our system I am overwhelmed and have no clue where

we should begin. I’m going to be out cruising farmer’s markets this summer. My love affair with meat is so over…

Yes the food industry is very disconnected. All is not lost. Food Inc is another powerful documentary with a positive outcome. The illumination of proper, grounded, and humane farming of crops and animals is not a fantasy. I’ve been a vegetarian for 15 years now with a little bit of fish thrown in, although the fish have left my diet for the most part. I still think there is a way to have your pig and eat it too. There are significant benefits to a plant based diet. I think it should be the basis of food for most people. A friend of mine who studies nutrition speaks about something called bio individuality. That meat may work and possibly may be needed by certain individuals. I am not an expert on the matter. I do know this, switching to be a veggie takes a good deal of work. Protein is key and is often deficient in new vegetarians.

Spinach is a brilliant source of protein for the veggie. but diversity and information are necessary. It’s a big transition.

Oh my goodness, I got the name of the documentary wrong in my post. It is Food, Inc. I’ll have to get lots of spinach at the grocery this week. It’s one of my favorite veggies. I’ve done vegetarian before. It’s hard to maintain because my husband is a big meat eater. Any tips are appreciated. I think I ended

up eating too many carbs.

I saw this movie last night and was so disgusted by the treatment of the animals and how the big companies treated those farmers!! Good eye-opening movie in my opinion and makes me want to start buying from local markets much more frequently, or plant a garden of my own! Where I live we do have a local butcher who sells hormone-free meat though it’s more $$$ , but I may just start eating less meat and only getting stuff that I know where it came from/what it was fed. For health reasons and to stop supporting these corporations that control so much of us, right down to our breakfast cereal (if we let them!!!). I heard another good movie was “King Corn” -all about how so much of our food is made up of some byproduct or form of corn that is cheaply subsidized by the US govt.

Does anyone know if Canada is the same as the US with regards to all the food regulations and meat production??

Another good movie that will make you think about what you eat is “Fast Food Nation”. My wife and I have been vegetarian for about 2 years now. Switching over was easier than I thought mainly because we looked for lots of vegetarian substitutes for the meat items we used to eat. It allowed us to make the conversion without to much shock.

So since I posted to this topic a couple weeks ago I cannot bring myself to eat any more meat!!!! Fish only… I spent a small fortune on organic grass fed beef and after two bites had to stop. The thought of those cows, pigs and chickens just wouldn’t go away. (And there is no craving for McDonald’s- I’ll never feed a chicken nugget to my kids again!) I actually am finding it very easy to not eat meat- just been reading up on alternative protein sources and starting to feel pretty good from it! Thanks for the movie recommendations…
