What Can You Do With a Sociology Degree

You can…

Provide Services to Humanity. Sociology students work in human services and provide counseling, advocacy, mental health services, programming, and even administration. Sociology students also work in the criminal justice system (i.e. corrections, rehabilitation,  etc.)

Provide Services to Business. Sociology students work in human resources, management, sales, marketing, public relations, and even office administration. Their awareness of the issues of social class, gender, ethnicity, and their sensitivity to the structural features of organizations and institutions, make them ideal resources for businesses interested in navigating the increasingly explosive landscape of our transforming daily lives.

Educate.  Sociologists teach in universities, teach in K12 schools, and teach on the Web. They teach about gender, ethnicity, inequality, the environment, aging, power,  The System, and much, much more.

Legislate. Sociology students work gathering socials statistics, work in demography, work in public administration, do policy analysis, do research, engage in program development, and even city planning.

Produce, direct, make jokes, and write. More and more Sociology is peaking between the cracks of our popular culture. Documentaries are featuring content grounded in the science of Sociology. Many comedians, including the comedy duo Key and Peele, and the critical John Oliver, clearly have either taken Sociology courses, or have read books written by sociologists.

Discover and Analyze.  Sociology students who go on and complete PhD degrees engage in research, analyze their findings, and present these findings to the world in scholarly journals, and journals like this one.

Participate and transform. Sociology students bring a sophisticated awareness of self and society to any organization. Those interested in identifying issues, solving problems, and saving the planet should either take sociology classes, or hire sociology students.
